Amid a revolution in technological discoveries, both the notions and the definitions of human and humanity are changing faster and more radically than ever before.

Living in the Present Future brings together artists who emphasize an ever-stronger fusion of body and consciousness with technology (Roman Lipski, Amalie Smith, Lea Guldditte Hestelund); those who are familiar with man’s close relationship with nature and non-human life (Artur Malewski, Ewa Juszkiewicz, Emil Westman Hertz), and those focusing on the ethical and existential dimensions of life in a rapidly changing world (Izabella Gustowska, Aneta Grzeszykowska, Peter Frimand, SUPERFLEX).

Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe, Beyond Festival 2018 October 3, 2018 - October 7, 2018

“The art exhibition "Sapiens" at the ZKM Karlsruhe as part of the Beyond Festival shows, among other international artists, a view of selected paintings from the previous dialogue between Roman Lispki and his artificial intelligence. It also uses digital media to visualize the core of that conceptual art, which is based on infinite inspiration: A parallel digital exhibition of the pictures by the muse takes place, which every visitor can experience on his own smartphone via QR code scan. 

Roman Lipski and Florian Dohmann present the idea of an AI-Muse, which can not only be used for artistic purposes, but also finds its way into the creative business sector. The Future Design symposium also includes a panel where renowned speakers discuss the topic of artificial intelligence.

Who actually creates whom, the artist the work or the work the artist? This question, which catapults us directly into the chicken-and-egg dilemma of artistic creation which can be applied in an even more radical way to the relationship between artists and artificial intelligence (AI). For when machines begin to make art, the position of the artist is shaken: Is there still room for the artist? For the genius?

Roman Lipski's works choose such reflections on authorship, genius, and originality as their starting point. For his work "Unfinished", Lipski, together with Florian Dohmann from the Berlin AI company Birds on Mars, created an AI muse that, according to him, makes him the only artist in Berlin who no longer has to suffer creative crises.

A picture says more than a thousand words, but it cannot show more than a thousand pictures. Therefore, a wallpaper serves as a foundation for Lipski's painting. It depicts the digitally generated images of the muse and enters into a pendant relationship with the exhibited artworks, questioning and blurring the boundaries between artistic intelligence and artificial intelligence. The painter's fascination with the incomprehensible technological processes of self-learning generative networks is reflected in the installation „Muse-Box". Here he creates an aesthetic visualization of his idea of a technological black box. The luminous 360° sculpture exposes the intangible digital images of the artificial muse from the previous three-year cooperation between painter and system.

Futurium Berlin, Werkstattwochen / Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften, May 31, 2018 / June 9, 2018

In the rooms of the Futurium, Roman Lipski stages his studio and gives the viewer insights into the creative exchange between himself and his artificial intelligence. The dialogue between the two protagonists takes place directly in front of the visitor's eyes, as the painter interacts with his artificial muse via selection on his tablet and projection of the digital images. The moment he observes the AI images generated in advance and the unprecedented impulses of his work, the possibility of unfolding his artistic inspiration for a new painting arises.

Lipski's studio atmosphere accompanies an exhibition of selected paintings from the previous dialogue.
